A photo of a sponsored cover of the popular Indian daily Business Standard has appeared online, featuring an image of Donald Tusk surrounded by the logos of Indian companies. Internet users have drawn attention to several of them, particularly one that made headlines in Poland during the so-called visa scandal.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is visiting India. Today, he travelled to Bengaluru, regarded as India’s Silicon Valley. He is expected to take part in a Polish-Indian business seminar focusing on the ICT and aerospace industries.

The prime minister’s entourage is attempting to portray the visit as a public relations success, showcasing posters and headlines welcoming the head of the Polish government to India.

Kinga Gajewska, an MP from the Civic Coalition (KO), shared a post by Patryk Kugiel of the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM), featuring the cover of the business daily Business Standard.

The front page features a large sponsored advertisement welcoming Tusk and announcing efforts to strengthen the strategic and economic partnership between Poland and India.

Below it is the logo of the Confederation of Indian Industry, followed by the logos of six companies.

Journalists were particularly struck by the logo of VFS Global. The company specialises in managing administrative tasks related to visa and passport applications, as well as consular services on behalf of governments.

The company made headlines in Poland during the so-called visa scandal, which politicians from the Civic Coalition (KO), led by Tusk, sought to portray as one of the major scandals of the previous government. The affair was investigated by a special parliamentary commission of inquiry.

Several months ago, the Polish news portal zero.pl pointed out that in 2023, KO politicians accused the Indian company of “helping Lukashenko bring migrants to Belarus.” Yet Poland’s cooperation with VFS Global is now continuing as usual – in Belarus, Turkey and India.

Interestingly, Hanna Shen, a correspondent for Gazeta Polska Codziennie, has pointed out that other companies featured on the cover alongside Tusk have various links to Russia.
